During the COVID-19 pandemic, in keeping with Governor Abbott's orders and CDC guidelines, the City of North Richland Hills was forced to close from mid-March until May. Though public offices were closed employees continued to serve the community both from city facilities and from home.

Supplies were hard to come by during the early days of the COIVD-19 outbreak. Everything was in short supply from cleaning goods to personal protective equipment. Thermometers were so scarce that the city asked for donations from citizens. The donations allowed employees to be screened for a fever before their shifts.

The main temperature checkpoint at City Hall screened all employees for a fever and asked a series of questions in an effort to prevent anyone sick from coming to work. This practice was also implemented at other city facilitates as they reopened.
