They were civic and community leaders in the early 1900s in the Birdville and Hurst areas. A portion of their farm and pasture land is now “Restaurant Row” on Bedford-Euless Road, North East Mall, and Loop Interstate 820-Airport Freeway interchange. James M. Anderson (1860-1936) migrated from Indiana to Texas in 1883. Not long after he married Hattie Arwine (1868-1960), from a prominent Hurst family. Title A name given to the resource A.G. Walker- Surveyor, Civic Leader, and State Senator Subject The topic of the resource Pioneers Description An account of the resource A.G. Walker (1807-1882) was land surveyor and a civic leader in Birdville, founder of the <em>Birdville Union</em> newspaper (), and a state senator from 1857-1860. Walker by some accounts was involved in a wild west style shootout with rival newspaperman and Fort Worth's first notary public John Jeff Courtenay. Courtenay was an early secessionist who established the count's first newspaper, <em>The Birdville Western Express</em> in 1855. The two had traded vicous attacks in their newspapers. This eventually enraged Courtenay so severely that he either stormed into Walker's office and fired at him missing and then was shot dead by Walker or they met on the street with Walker being faster on the draw and killing Courtenay. The 14 room house was about 2 blocks south of the present 7400 block of Baker Boulevard in Richland Hills. The Marsh Farm sprawled some 2,100 acres from where the railroad tracks cross Interstate 820 to the site of City Hall today. Marsh was so impressed with the William Osborn Reves (later changed to Reeves) home in Birdville that he built a near duplicate in the late 1910s or early 1920s, adding extensively to the house that his grandfather or father had built in the late 19th century. Native rock house of Guy Reeves and Willie Reeves. Guy Reeves leased a Four Points Texaco station to Tiny Anderson, then to Ralph Wade in the 1940s, and finally to Bert Starnes in 1949. Residents from the surrounding areas bought groceries, gasoline, and feed at Starnes’ store. Four Points was roughly equal distance from Smithfield and Birdville. Four Points is now AutoNation Chevrolet. The creek drains Iron Horse Golf Course, Diamond Oaks Country Club, and Fossil Creek Park. Big Fossil Creek had a history of periodic flooding of homes in the adjoining Richland Hills in the 1950s until flood control measures on the southernmost part of the creek were taken. Flooding continued in the upper parts of the creek and in the late 1980s, a flood caused extensive damage to the city-owned Iron Horse Golf Course.
