Title A name given to the resource James and Mabel Shivers' Farm Subject The topic of the resource Farmers Families Pioneers Description An account of the resource The home of James (1884-1945) and Mabel (1882-1972) Shivers’ farm circa 1940s. The farm was located in what is now the 8300 block of Davis Boulevard. The house was later replaced with a red brick home. John Thomas Shivers (1855-1923), James’ father, bought 240 acres of timberland for $13 an acre after arriving from Alabama by wagon train. He built a log cabin near this site. Three generations of Shivers lived on this land. James’ son Johnny (1909-1983) married Aline Bost (1915-2012) lived on the land until their deaths. Descendants of the Shivers still live there today. Title A name given to the resource Rufe Snow Drive Improvements Description An account of the resource Rufe Snow Drive was an old unimproved country road when North Richland Hills was first established in 1953. Some of the city's earliest businesses were located near its intersection with Grapevine Highway. With the combination of the city growing, development moving north, and the opening of loop Interstate 820 it became clear that the road was inadequate to handle the increasing amount of traffic. Plans to widen and improve the road were formulated and the result can be seen here in 1982. The lower floor was rented to the Smith and Beddo Mercantile firm in 1878. The building has since been moved about ¼ mile from the original site. The building is currently located at 6600 Baker Boulevard Richland Hills. Accountant Charles Mayberry moved it there in 1983. He paid the lodge $700 for the building. Play began in 1964-coached by Dub Crisp. The team was made up of girls from both Richland Hills and North Richland Hills. Title A name given to the resource Fossil Creek Subject The topic of the resource Floods Golf Courses Description An account of the resource Big Fossil Creek in 1983 winding its way southwest through North Richland Hills. The creek drains Iron Horse Golf Course, Diamond Oaks Country Club, and Fossil Creek Park. Big Fossil Creek had a history of periodic flooding of homes in the adjoining Richland Hills in the 1950s until flood control measures on the southernmost part of the creek were taken. Flooding continued in the upper parts of the creek and in the late 1980s, a flood caused extensive damage to the city-owned Iron Horse Golf Course. Native rock house of Guy Reeves and Willie Reeves. Guy Reeves leased a Four Points Texaco station to Tiny Anderson, then to Ralph Wade in the 1940s, and finally to Bert Starnes in 1949. Residents from the surrounding areas bought groceries, gasoline, and feed at Starnes’ store. Four Points was roughly equal distance from Smithfield and Birdville. Four Points is now AutoNation Chevrolet.
