Description
Zion Methodist Church founded around 1866, probably first called “Willow Springs.” William Turner and his wife Mary (1819-1906) migrated to the Tarrant County frontier in 1856, establishing their home and blacksmith shop on the south side of Watauga road Smithfield road. Their 300 acres was evidently considered to be a part of the Willow Springs Community, also referenced as Bethel. Turner began to invite friends into his home for services in 1858. This was the early beginning of Smithfield United Methodist Church. A Texas Historical Marker is located on the east side of the present building.
