Title A name given to the resource Kay Granger Park Art installation Description An account of the resource After graduation from Texas Wesleyan University, Kay took a job teaching English and journalism at Richland High School in North Richland Hills. In 1979, after nine years as a teacher, Kay embarked on a new challenge and began selling insurance. In 1985, she opened her own insurance firm. As a business owner, Kay again made time to give back to her community. She served on the Fort Worth Zoning Commission for seven years, was elected to the Fort Worth City Council in 1989, and was elected Mayor of the City of Fort Worth in 1991. In 1996, Kay Granger was elected to represent the 12th Congressional District of Texas, including North Richland Hills and portions of Northeast Tarrant County. She continued to represent the North Richland Hills community in Washington until 2004 when redistricting moved the City into the 26th Congressional District. During the eight years she represented North Richland Hills, Congresswoman Granger worked to establish the Northeast Transportation Service, which has assisted many elderly and disabled residents in Northeast Tarrant County. She was also supportive of local business, industry, and economic development efforts and was an advocate for public safety, education, health care, homeland security, transportation, and many other important issues. Kay Granger's contributions as both a Congresswoman and a teacher will forever be appreciated and remembered by the City of North Richland Hills.
