Their 300 acres was evidently considered to be a part of the Willow Springs Community, also referenced as Bethel. Turner began to invite friends into his home for services in 1858. This was the early beginning of Smithfield United Methodist Church. A Texas Historical Marker is located on the east side of the present building.
